Not a huge fan myself but I quite liked Time ships but maybe because I like Wells.

One thing bugging me about this film version is that his front door opens onto the street. A gentleman would have - at the very least - a porch, a hall, or in a larger house his rooms would be upstairs.

Definitely prefer the book, but as a film it was watchable. And the effects were better than most - for the technology they had then. Better than some B7 ones, in fact.
