Servalan would just nuke the whole place. Much the safest option.

Do you think the film being black n white makes it scarier?

In that case, I'd be skipping...

It seems more like a metaphor for drug use, to me. Just like you, but with no problems, no feelings, no trouble.

As if individuality is the problem?

Every American's worst fear - 'you have no choice" !

What did she stab him with - a potato peeler? Very effective, whatever it was.

Back to the communist ideal

And we're back to today's situation, where having a different opinion makes you the enemy.

Yes. But it could as easily be the consumer society as communism, I think. Everyone buying the same clothes, the same food, the same drink - all in uniformity.

I mean, it seems more Brave New World than 1984.

But he's on the point of falling asleep! Is he far enough away from those things, or is it too late for him?

M1795537OCVirn
It's an American film, so it has to end with optimism (of a sort). Much more chilling if he'd fallen asleep. Then we'd never know who was who...
But who's to say the rest of humanity would do any better? Those pods are being distributed as we watch!

I like to look on the bright side...but I would have a phobia about sleeping for the rest of my .... natural? life.

Nice idea, though, and quite well done. Only spoiled by the weak ending, really.
You could split wood on that bloke's jaw. That's probably what won him the part.

I highly recommend the remake. It's a bit more ghastly though. You'd like it M'Virn.

As I said, I don't often watch this kind of thing, so I doubt I'd watch another version of it. But it was a good choice, although last week's was better!

I am inclined to look on the bright side too. There's enough misery in the world.

I think I might pass on that. This is about the right level of ghastliness for me!

Question: are either of you SF fans? I thought these films I put up here were staples of the SF diet (apart from last week) and yet..

I still think some Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be worth a rewatch. Or maybe something like GalaxyQuest as an antidote to all the horror!
