But it could as easily be the consumer society as communism, I think. Everyone buying the same clothes, the same food, the same drink - all in uniformity. |

It's an American film, so it has to end with optimism (of a sort). Much more chilling if he'd fallen asleep. Then we'd never know who was who... But who's to say the rest of humanity would do any better? Those pods are being distributed as we watch! "You're not sulking, I hope?"

I still think some Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be worth a rewatch. Or maybe something like GalaxyQuest as an antidote to all the horror!
